'Varsha Choksi Child Guidance Clinic' building was inaugurated by Dr.Mohan Agashe, famous film actor and psychiatrist on 30th March 2008. A grand public function was held on the day to express gratitude to all those who have contributed to our achievement in receiving National Award. Other dignitaries present were : Mrs. Poornima Raje, Ex-president, Aavishkar, Mr. Uday Samant, MLA, Mr.Ashok Mayekar, President, Ratnagiri Municipal Council.

Namakaran (Giving a new name) Ceremony: As the other projects of Aavishkar like workshop and Child Guidance Clinic have been named after the principle donors (Shamrao Bhide & Varsha Choksi respectively) of these projects, the special school was named ' Sou. Savita Kamat Vidyamandir' on 6th December 2008 when Mr.Prakash Kamat, owner of Fine Organic Industries, Mumbai joined the family of Aavishkar. He has been honoured with 'Best Chemical Technologist's award' and 'President's award for great achievement in chemical industry' in the past. He chose the special school of Aavishkar to be the monument of his late wife's memories. His donation of Rs. 20,00,000 would be utilised for bearing the expenses of additional staff salary, aid to the needy students and expansion of building to meet the growing needs. All his family members, his business associate Mr.Shah and friends along with all our well wishers gathered for the occassion, were impressed by the cultural programme by students and the work being done at Aavishkar's various projects.

Website of Aavishkar Society was launched on 18th December 2008 at the hands of Mr.Suresh Dabade & Mrs.Alka Dabade, Ex-President, Marathi Association of Minnesota, U.S.A.

Notable Visitor: Dilip Prabhavalkar, the great varsatile Marathi actor who has acted in 'Nati-Goti' a play based on the family of mentally challenged boy and 'Chaukat Raja' a film on a mentally challanged boy's life; visited Aavishkar and spent time with our students.

Corrective Surgery Camp: A surgical camp for corrective surgeries was organised by Rotary Club of Laxmi Road, Pune at Parkar Hospital, Ratnagiri on 12th-13th Dec. 09 for our students. The team of experts Dr.Sandeep Patwardhan, Orthopedic surgeon, along with Dr.(Mr.& Mrs.) Velankar & Dr. Bhagwat did a great job by offering their services to our needy students without having to pay anything. The local experts Dr.Pandurang Kamble, Dr. Potdar, Dr.Dattaprasad Ketkar also offered their help. Dr.A.D.Parkar and all the staff members of Parkar Hospital provided all the facilities while office bearers and members of Rotary Club of Ratnagiri coordinated all the activities of the camp.

Young Athlete's Meet : Special Olympics, India, Maharashtra State organised a Young Athlete's meet at Aavishkar. All young children between 3-7 yrs age participated in various games which help in developing motor skills. The students from Jidda school, Chiplun had also joined the meet. Ms.Sandra Vaz, from Special Olympics complemented Aavishkar for excellent organization.
